Photographer Mendy Hechtman went last Friday to Hebron city of fathers to stay in the city on Shabbos and pray at the Cave of the Patriarchs.
On Friday afternoon Hechtman went out on a photo tour in town, but unlike usually, this time it ended in a miracle.
"During the photographing, all done in 'Avraham Aveinu neighborhood', I heard gunfire and stones thrown from the 'cassava'," says Mendy. "I was just in Beit Hadassah area, and I went to an abandoned building, where I could observe what was happening in the Arab area.
"I saw Arabs throwing rocks at Palestinians police who tried to restore order. Suddenly, one of the Arab rioters caught me photographing them. He pointed at me and a bunch of Arabs began to throw stones and blocks at me, and whatever came to hand. I saw the hatred in their eyes," Hechtman recalls the moments of terror.
"While I was in a Jewish area, it was just 40 meters from a group of Arab rioters. I felt danger and walked away quickly. I survived miraculously," says Hechtman.
