Embarassment in the Haredi public of the United States: Nechemia Weberman was sent today (Tues.) to 103 years in prison.
Nechemia Weberman, a Satmar chossid, 54, resident of Brooklyn, treated drop out youth for nearly 30 years, and was recently indicted of 59 sections after a complaint was filed against him by a young girl.
This is an unprecedented sentence and Weberman will have to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
His lawyers said after the verdict: "We will appeal the ruling."
Perl Reich, the plaintiff's lawyer said, "The girl needs a lot of help, and the fact that the court ruled a severe sentence, will certainly help her recover to some extent."
Satmar Hasidism in recent weeks raised large sums of money so they can file an appeal as soon as possible.
The complainant's family says that since the beginning of the affair, she is haunted by factors in the Chassidus.
Her father was forced to declare publicly that he had no connection to the "Messira" against Weberman to legal authorities and the blame was directed at the mother who suffered severe insults.
The court case had a wide scope coverage in New York, and has already caused enormous damage to the Haredi public's image.
